چکیده

This paper presents a new technique for rendering caustics on non Lambertian surfaces The method is based on an extension of the photon map which removes previous restrictions limiting the usage to Lambertian surfaces We add information about the incoming direction to the photons and this allows us to combine the photon map with arbitrary re ectance functions Furthermore we introduce ba lancing of the photon map which not only reduces the memory requirements but also signi cantly re duces the rendering time We have used the method to render caustics on surfaces with re ectance func tions varying from Lambertian to glossy specular

A Fast Rendering Method for Refractive and Reflective Caustics Due to Water Surfaces

In order to synthesize realistic images of scenes that include water surfaces, the rendering of optical effects caused by waves on the water surface, such as caustics and reflection, is necessary. However, rendering caustics is quite complex and time-consuming. In recent years, the performance of graphics hardware has made significant progress. This fact encourages researchers to study the acce...

Interactive rendering of caustics using interpolated warped volumes

In this paper we present an improved technique for interactive rendering of caustics using programmable graphics hardware. Previous real-time methods have used simple prisms for the caustic volumes and a constant intensity approximation at the receiver. Our approach uses interpolated caustic volumes to render smooth high-quality caustics. We have derived a simple formula for evaluating the dens...

Image-Based Rendering for Non-Diffuse Synthetic Scenes

Most current image-based rendering methods operate under the assumption that all of the visible surfaces in the scene are opaque ideal diffuse (Lambertian) reflectors. This paper is concerned with image-based rendering of non-diffuse synthetic scenes. We introduce a new family of image-based scene representations and describe corresponding image-based rendering algorithms that are capable of ha...

Interactive Raytraced Caustics

In computer graphics, bright patterns of light focused onto matte surfaces are called “caustics”. We present a method for rendering dynamic scenes with moving caustics at interactive rates. This technique requires some simplifying assumptions about caustic behavior allowing us to consider it a local spatial property which we sample in a pre-processing stage. Storing the caustic locally limits c...
